You have, in the past, Vitriol. It isn't really just about offending, it's more about directly insulting somebody. If you are just being your usual weird-self, that's not really a "bannable" offense (thought at times posting inappropriate material demands an edit to remove it, or a temporal ban if you persist).

My fail was in overlooking such instances, and only remembering Vitriol as "that crazy forum member that actually keeps the place sort of unexpectedly strange."

Hmm, I did made Tofu a moderator after I read his confirmation for it. I guess you guys didn't notice that so easily? Unless I messed up something in that admin panel (I much preferred the previous one).

Hydro...something, was a girl who joined the server a long time ago. She was very excited about the server and really liked it. She used to chat with me for a while, and she wanted to learn how to program. She did a bit of work for the server for a while.

That was, until one day, suddenly she decided to just flood every single thread of the forums with all sorts of unsuitable images, something that Vitriol would had been proud of, minus the transvestite part. She got banned, her mess took forever to clean up, and afterwards (like a week or so) she appeared again to chat with me. She said she just wanted to disappear with a bang, but I think that was a really strange way to do so.

She came back to the forums some weeks after, but after another few weeks did a mini flood and left (an extremely half-hearted one, I'd say).

I don't remember more than that, other than that we used to play quite frequently in the server :v

 then one day a wicked troll got hold of her email, said bad things about her sex, and successfully convinced her that she needed plastic surgery. her hopes were raised after seeing all the before and after photos from Korean clinics until she found out that she couldn't afford any procedures and realized that she would look like a little boy for the rest of her life. the troll mocked her after leading her on for weeks. she exploded with fury and threatened to commit suicide. she was never heard from again...

Whoa, it suddenly became a "My memories about Hydro" topic? Guess I'll join.

I played WoW for a long while with her, Hydro was a nice person and as crazy/depressive as anyone here. She was quite skilled in gaming, cheerfull and knew how to annoy/be kind to people sometimes, having her around made game more interesting (dude, WoW sucks). We shared some problems, and agreed/disagreed in some points about life when having long reflections about how shitty life can be, which made me vainly try to cheer us up. She did had some peculiar interest in sex in general, it was quite fun/exciting to talk about it. When thinking about it she was quite a normal person to find in internet, I wonder how she's doing, stuff wasn't really good last time I spoke with her.

 It turns out that Vitriol knows how to behave him/her/itself as long as you threaten him/her/it with the ban-hammer. I've been too lenient/lazy/careless to realize that before T_T;

He's not behaving himself. He's just being subtle. Look hard enough and he's still the same old Vitriol, just taking a different approach.
